The Viltrox AF 85mm f/1.8 II is a second-generation, portrait-length prime lens engineered for Sony E-mount full-frame and APS-C mirrorless cameras. Its bright f/1.8 maximum aperture excels in low-light conditions and delivers impressive background separation, while the advanced optical construction of 10 elements in 7 groups including one extra-low dispersion (ED) element, one aspherical element, and four highly transparent glass elements minimises chromatic and spherical aberrations for outstanding sharpness and clarity across the frame. An HD Nano multi-layer coating further suppresses flare and ghosting, ensuring high contrast even in challenging lighting situations.

Driven by an STM stepping motor, the lens delivers fast, quiet, and precise autofocus fully optimised for Sony’s mirrorless system including Eye AF tracking making it equally well-suited for stills and video work. The internal focusing design keeps the barrel length constant and prevents the front element from rotating, which is ideal for use with polarising filters on its 72mm thread. A rounded 9-blade diaphragm produces smooth, pleasing bokeh at wide apertures, and electronic contacts allow camera-controlled aperture selection and Exif data communication, with a built-in USB port enabling straightforward firmware updates. On APS-C bodies, the lens provides an equivalent focal length of approximately 127.5mm.
